2. Is public transportation safe in Perú?
We recommend using taxi cabs via mobile applications such as Cabify, Beat and Uber, and it allows you monitoring the route indicated in the application. Regardless of the chosen means, it is important to always stay alert and take care of putting away all your personal belongings while the vehicle is at a stop or the windows are down.
3. Which places can I visit during the weekend in Lima?
There are many options and activities to do during the weekend. The main entertainment center is Larcomar (Miraflores), then there are several shopping centers where you will find a variety of shops and restaurants such as Jockey Plaza (La Molina) and Real Plaza Salaverry (Jesus Maria). To go for a walk and play sports, you can visit the Malecon de Miraflores and/or Barranco, as well as the Pentagonito in San Borja. There are several routes for cyclists throughout the city. Lima offers as well a wide variety of restaurants and bars which are mentioned in our Resource Guide that will be delivered by your Service Coordinator.

The Resource Guide, as its name implies, is a guide that we give to our clients every time they arrive in Peru to start a service. In it you can find relevant information such as historical and cultural data, information on the search process for properties and schools, also on domestic service, transport, consulates, holidays, gastronomy, entertainment and safety tips.
5. What safety recommendations must be taken into account when walking around the city?
While you are walking through the different cities of Peru it is important to always be alert, whether you are on foot or by car. Valuables should not be in sight, and purses or wallets should be kept in a safe place during the ride.
6. What types of rental properties can I find in Lima?
In Peru it is usual to be able to find furnished and unfurnished properties depending on the budget assigned. In Lima, in the districts of Miraflores, San Isidro and Surco it is more likely to find apartments with 2-4 rooms, while in the district of La Molina it is more likely to find houses or condominiums. Rental prices will vary depending on the district and the size of the property chosen.
7. What are the most common conditions that can be found in leases?
Usually, the leasing contracts in Peru are for a one (1) year term, with the possibility of being renewed. The most relevant clauses should include notice times prior to the renewal or termination of the contract, penalties for non-compliance or early termination, diplomatic clause, conditions for the maintenance of the property and the return of property. It is important that all this information is reviewed in detail by both parties to avoid inconveniences in the future. Our Service Coordinators are trained to be able to advise you in the best way, and to ensure that fair contracts are signed for both parties.
8. What services should I pay in addition to the rent of the property?
In addition to the rental amount of a property, you must consider that the tenant is responsible for making the payment of the monthly maintenance of the property in case it is an apartment, or it is within a condominium. The tenant is also responsible for the payment of taxes, these can be paid quarterly at the Municipality of the district where the property is located. Additional expenses such as cable, internet, home phone or security should also be considered, if these are hired directly by the tenant.
9. What considerations should I take into account to start a search process for schools in Peru?
To start this process, it is important to define with your Service Consultant the search requirements, such as budget, type of school, requested grade, among others. Accordingly, you will be sent a list of college options that best suit your needs. Once chosen, contact will be made with these schools to see if there are vacancies available and the requirements according to the grades you want to apply to. You should consider that depending on the grade, the school will request to evaluate the student in some courses. These evaluations can be virtual or face-to-face.
10. How and when should I notify the owner of the property I am renting, that I will be leaving?
It is important to notify the owner in writing of the termination and/or non-renewal of the contract and the date on which you are planning to return the property, according to the times that have been negotiated so as not to incur in additional penalties. It is important to know that the diplomatic clause can only be applied if it is an international transfer indicated by the company where you work, and if the specified notice times are met.
11. What is the process to cancel the hired services in the property that I am renting?
The hired services such as telephone, cable and internet can be canceled through a legalized letter, authorizing LARM to carry out this process on behalf of the owner. We recommend, as far as possible, to cancel the service on the last day of stay in the country, since the estimated period for the service to be canceled can be within the first 10 days of request.
12. How do I know who will be the people to take care of the arrangements of the property that I rent, prior to its return?
Usually, the owners request the painting of the property and washing of curtains and blinds, as well as a professional cleaning of the property. Maintenance and additional repairs must be discussed by both parties and once and agreement is reached, this information must be detailed in a Delivery Certificate. Our Relocation Specialist are trained to support clients during the whole process, to ensure that the return of the property is carried out under the usual conditions.
13. Which are the repairs that normally must be made to a property before it is returned?

14. Can I drive with my foreign driver’s license?
The foreign driver’s license will be valid as long as you have not yet obtained your Peruvian Residence. Once you have obtained your Immigration Card, you must start the application process for a Peruvian driver’s license or make the respective exchange, if your nationality allows it. It is important to contact your LARM Consultant so that before your arrival in Peru, they can provide you with the list of necessary documents from your country of origin that must be presented for this process.
